Pico Ruivo Walk

Description

This trail is the fastest and easiest way to get to the highest peak of Madeira Island, the Pico Ruivo standing  at 1861 metres, it is six km of walking, three km one way and another three in return, with the duration of three hour return journey walking with a calm step down a very accessible path.

During the walk you will find the vegetation of altitude, and all the rock formation of volcanic origin in the highest peaks of the island, with several species of endemic flora of the island of Madeira. The arrival at Pico Ruivo has a superb view over Santana, the north coast and south coast of the island, which contrasts with the green of the forest and the blue of the sea and the sky.

• The walk is approx 3 – 4hours
• Distance – 6 km
• Difficulty: Moderate
• Bring for walking comfortable clothing, and comfortable hiking boots or shoes
